Here’s Your Dew of Hermon Formula

MountHermon 2

How [inherently] good and pleasant [lovely, charming, attractive] it is
when God’s people live together in unity!

It is [joyful and abundant] like precious oil poured on the head,
running down on the beard,
running down on Aaron’s [the first high priest’s] beard,
down on the collar of his robe.

[This unity] is as if the dew of Hermon [known for it’s lavish prosperity and abundance]
were falling on Mount Zion [the place of worship over 200 kilometers away… that’s how powerful unity is].
For there [in that place of unity] the Lord bestows [literally “commands”] his blessing,
even [quality and quantity of] life forevermore.

(Psalm 133:1-3, NIV – parenthetical notes mine)

what is the secret?

Okay, several people have asked, so..

The point is that God “commands a blessing” in advance to those who will position themselves to receive it. Blessing is a huge word that literally means God “stoops”. Both of the similes (like the oil… like the dew…) are Middle Eastern examples of abundance. What I love is that God doesn’t limit Himself to define what “blessing” means. Moreover, the reference at the end to “life everlasting” certainly means heaven as we would describe it, but it also means quality of life here and now.

And the key to positioning ourselves to receive this blessing is for God’s people to quit fighting, arguing, holding on to past offenses, making excuses for their bitterness, etc. and learn to live in unity and harmony with God’s people. When we do that, we place ourselves in a position to receive from God more than we ever bargained for.
