But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day (2 Peter 3:8, NAS).

A Thousand Summers and a thousand more,
Your bride has waited and anticipated
That “blessed hope” You spoke in the language of forever.
Knowing we were born and born again for this,
We will hold on to Your promise and, if need be
Wait a Thousand Summers more.

So we wait, but never barren of Your presence,
And we hope, but never void of Your great care.
So we serve, with boldness standing on the promise
That a Thousand Summers never can compare.

A Thousand Summers and a thousand more,
We’ve wandered and wondered, failed and floundered
As we tried to hold You faithfully in our hearts.
But knowing that it’s Your job to do the heart holding
And ours just to believe, we’ll trust and, if need be
Trust a Thousand Summers more.

So we believe, and know You’re strong enough to hold us
And we fall sometimes, but rise in Your embrace.
So we rest in Your great faithfulness to keep us
For a Thousand Summers carried by Your grace.

A Thousand Summers and a thousand more
Your bride has not seen, yet believed – not touched, but felt
Those everlasting arms You said we could lean on.
Knowing our faith will become sight as the clock ticks zero,
Until we run into Your arms, we’ll run today’s race, and, if need be
Run a Thousand Summers more.

So we run with patience and endurance to You,
And we touch eternity along the way.
So we’ll fix our eyes and expectations on You.
And a Thousand Summers seem like just a day.
