The previous post – the one about Eagles’ Wings – was a significant one for this site – it was Post #1,000. Over the last six-plus years, roughly three times a week, I have had the delight, challenge, and opportunity to share an insight, rant, celebration or half-baked idea on a wide variety of subjects.
And now this. What to do to begin the next 1,000?
At first I had this crazy idea about going through the titles of every single post, in order, taking one word and writing a single piece. Yeah, that became pretty impossible, pretty fast.
Then I thought about other variations on that theme, playing off of previous post titles, etc. Problem is, that, too would have taken an enormous amount of time, and I still didn’t know what I actually wanted to say in that format.
I thought about linking back to favorites – mine and yours… Like maybe telling you that this is the most popular post of all time in terms of number of hits.
Or this generated the most comments, for understandable reasons.
I could tell you that this generated the most Facebook likes and shares.
Or that this still makes me laugh out loud probably more than anything.
And this one still brings tears to my eyes.
This is the one I’m probably the proudest of in terms of the combination of content and writing.
This is my favorite photo shoot.
And other than the births of my seven (so far) grandchildren, this is probably my favorite memory-maker.
But I wanted to do more than look back. What I really wanted to do was find a way to say with fresh language what this site is all about. So here’s a stab at it…
Your today used to be your tomorrow when today was yesterday. But the today you have – good, bad or ugly – is the result of what you did yesterday when today was tomorrow.

LifeVesting is about owning your future as you stand on your hope.
It’s about recognizing that today is what it is, but tomorrow doesn’t have to be today. But to make tomorrow something better than today – to own my future – I have to hold something in reserve from today to invest in for tomorrow. It’s so true in money world. It’s also true in time, love, career, friendships, and every other thing.
Jeremiah 29:11 has become quite the darling of the Christian coffee mug and wall art set.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
What’s not to like about that? Simply this: Everybody wants a prosperous future and hope. But nobody wants to focus on it or accept responsibility for it. We’d rather just consume all our resources for today and howl at the government or the church or God to fix all of our broken stuff or pay all our debts tomorrow.
