A Love That Watches

by Andy Wood on September 21, 2011

in Life Currency, Love

Somewhere in the places you aren’t aware of in the moment, in the quietest and yet most powerful of ways, you are being loved.

Past the grand displays and the tender expressions, the soul-stirring words and the daily graces, you are being cared for…

…attended to…

…noticed.

Behind a love that gives, a love that speaks, or a love that serves is a love that stays awake while you sleep and attends to you while you’re lost in the busyness of your day.

This is a love that watches.

This love searches you and knows you…

…when you sit and when you rise…

…where the wheels in your mind or the wheels of your car are headed…

…your work and your rest…

…your words and your ways.

This is a love that watches.

This love is intimately acquainted with your relationships and your dreams…

…your thoughts in the still places…

…your worship in the morning…

…your longings at night…

…and the sighs that carry you from places of contentment to places of sadness…

This is a love that watches.

This is no drafted M.P. or short end of the straw.  It’s the sweet surrender of a timeless heart that treasures every detail…

…every connecting point…

…every opportunity to say, “Come away”…

…or to hear you say, “I am my Beloved’s and He is mine.”

This is a love that watches.

This is no fair-weather friendship or love lost in the intoxication of sweet dreams and scarlet sunsets.  It’s a tough love…

…that follows you when you are distant…

…that waits for you when you wander…

…that remains alert even when you push away or become distracted.

It’s a sober love…

…steadfastly aware of the ways your heart can be divided…

…or your passion can become weary…

…yet all the while, there and aware…

…and understanding.

This is a love that will never be darkened by the shadows in your soul.

This is a love that watches.

This is no seasonal thing, like leaves on a tree, changing colors or falling away when the nights get cold.  This is a love that can freeze-frame a moment, yet was designed for eternity.

The One who knitted you together in your mother’s womb and brought you forth alive into a world awash in opportunity and lost in brokenness has never forgotten His Ultimate Intention.  He is preparing a place – for you.

And one day, when you close your eyes for the last time, you will discover that He never closed His eyes for the first time.  In the stillness and the loneliness, the frenzy and the fray, He never missed a thing.

This is a love that waits.

This is a love that works.

This is a love watches… for you to come home.
