Ideas That Sizzle: Another Circuit of Hanukkah Hams

Stupid ElectricChallenging times call for fresh, intelligent ideas!

You won’t find any here.

What you will find is the latest collection of Hanukkah Hams – episodes of brilliance on the Blooper Reel of Life.

The last edition focused on life behind the wheel.  This one’s dedicated to power.  Electric power.  Human power.  Kangaroo Power.  Hang on, there’s something for everybody.

Starting with this clever photographed solution to every man’s summertime dilemma – how to get your George Foreman Grill to work inside your above-ground swimming pool.  God forbid you have to actually step over the three-foot side and cook your burger on dry land.  Where’s the challenge in that?

Power Line Thieves

Memo to the two Pennsylvania men who were arrested last week for trying to steal power lines:

Three suggestions:

1.  If you’re going to risk going to jail for stealing something don’t you think you could find something a bit more compelling than wire?

2.  If you must steal a power wire, please make sure the lines aren’t still attached to a transformer and poles.  Just a thought.  Kevin, I hope you’ll leave the hospital soon.  Good luck with the court case – I think you may need it.

3.  Next time, check with Horse Sense Safety for important tips on staying safe when committing larceny.

The Perfect Gift for that Lady who Lights Up Your Life

My wife’s birthday is coming up soon, and I think I’ve figured out what to get her.  Some people in Japan have designed a solar-powered bra.

I’m not making this up.

The idea is to (okay these are their words) “raise awareness against global warming.”

(I’m pausing here for you to meditate on that last sentence.)

The undergarment is designed to conserve energy, and to generate enough power to charge a cell phone or iPod.

(Pausing again.)

It has a solar panel that can be worn around the waist and produce electricity from sunlight and room lighting.  There are a few cautions, however.  It’s not intended outdoor use and you can’t wash it(!) or wear it in the rain.  (Oh well.)

According to the bra maker’s spokeswoman, she hopes to send messages that lingerie can be eco-friendly and can save the planet Earth.

Kangaroos Are Also Doing Their Part

Speaking of saving the planet, Australian scientists are trying to find out why kangaroos don’t burp much, in the hope they might be able to lower greenhouse gas emissions.  The idea is that if they can figure out why kangaroos don’t produce much methane gas, they can teach those greenhouse-gassy cows a thing or two.

I figure it has something to do with that pouch thingy.  Or maybe the ‘roos are all wearing solar bras.

Power of the Human Kind

It seemed like a good idea at the time (where have I heard that before?).  Last week a couple of guys in Zurich had been to a disco, and returned to the hotel room.  There they decided to have some real fun – a spitting contest off the balcony outside their room.  To multiply his spitting power, one of them decided to take a running start from inside the hotel room.  He fell over the balcony, and died in the local hospital.  For the two of you who are wondering – sorry, I never heard if the running start actually worked.

Putting a Jolt in Your Career Path

Here’s a great way to show your news editor you’re ready for a big promotion.

Stand by Your (Shocked) Man

A woman came home to find her husband in the kitchen, shaking frantically with what looked like a wire running from his waist towards the electric kettle. Intending to jolt him away from the deadly current, she whacked him with a handy plank of wood by the back door, breaking his arm in two places. Until that moment he had been happily listening to his Walkman.

Get me that guy’s number.  I just thought of a great gift idea for the missus.

What’s YOUR most “shocking” idea?

A final reminder:  there is nearly always a camera watching you close by.  Watch the fence near the ground.  And remember – every bad idea probably started out as a good one at the time.
